Some facts, figures and terminology drawn from today's talk:
- 130 species become extinct each day. Birds, mammals, reptiles, and 70% of this is plants
- Deforestation contributes to 3/4 loss of birds and butterfly species
- 1/2 the world's wetlands have been drained
- Species (single) & ecosystems (communities of species)
- CE - Critically endangered
- E - Endangered
- V - vulnerable
- Of the local plants in the A.C.T., 2 are CE 8 are E and 9 are V. Of the ecosystems in the A.C.T., 2 are E and 1 is CE
- 2010 Year of Biodiversity
- Biodiversity is decreasing at an alarming rate because of us
