2010 year of biodiversity

Biodiversity: Life, the world, the variation of life for the entire globe.

The world has begun, relatively recently, to lose species and habitats at an ever-increasing and alarming rate.

Why?

Because of us.

And it's also about food security.

· About 100 million metric tonnes of aquatic life, including fish, molluscs and crustaceans are taken from the wild every year. http://wwf.panda.org/about_our_earth/biodiversity/biodiversity_and_you/

· Biodiversity has declined by more than a quarter in the last 35 years.

· In general terms, population growth and our consumption are the reasons for this enormous loss. Specifically, habitat destruction and wildlife trade are the major causes of population decline in species.
